Traverse City pitcher Peter Calhoun had a large part in his team beating the Virginia Beach Mariners, 4-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Traverse City, now 40-85, holds down last place in the East Coast League Mideast Division.

Scott Harper had a big 2-run home run for the Pit Spitters in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Traverse City leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from Leo Batiz and swatted a home run to center. It was his 10th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pit Spitters ahead, 4-0.

"Same old, same old, unfortunately," said losing manager Alex Salcedo.
