Blitzed by Beale, Spartans, Volcanoes Sink Further in WCS

Riding the 2-hit performance of right fielder Joe Beale, the Olympia Spartans stopped the visiting Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 6-3, in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series. Beale went 2-3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Spartans, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.
Oris Vincente took Salem-Keizer hurler Jay Garcia deep in the bottom of the fourth. His 3-run home run put the Spartans on top, 5-2. In all, Vincente had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"Nice win for us," said Vincente. "Now we'll go after the next one."
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.
