Flying Tigers Deal Mariners 4-1 Loss
|
Lakeland and Virginia Beach took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Lakeland Flying Tigers picked up a win at Virginia Beach Ballpark, dropping the Virginia Beach Mariners, 4-1, in 10 innings. Ed Butler, who is tied for 9th in the ECL in wins with 8, was the difference-maker. Jammer Dougherty, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings.
Lakeland used the timely hitting of Ethan Dillon to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Flying Tigers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Dillon.
The triumph puts Lakeland at 59-57 for the season.
