The rain could not keep the home crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs withstood an impressive performance by Winston-Salem right fielder John Morton to defeat the Dash, 9-8, at Charlotte Sports Park. Morton was 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. At 64-50, the Stone Crabs claim third place in the East Coast League Florida Division.

Had Aaron Worthington not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Worthington hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 9-8, in favor of the Stone Crabs.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Worthington, "and then get after it again."
