Mariners Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
The Dunedin Blue Jays got a sterling performance from pitcher Declan Soza, but the Virginia Beach Mariners still prevailed, 3-2. Soza threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner in relief was Chris Sperry. He is now 4-4. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. With the win over Dunedin, the Mariners improved to 74-36.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Isaac Dix? The 23-year old shortstop Dix stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Virginia Beach up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Dix.
