Traverse City pitcher Howie Wright gave the Red Sox all they could handle, but in the end, Salem left Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium with a win, 2-1. Wright allowed 2 runs on 8 hits over 6.1 innings. Salem reliever Noll Koszarek picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Howie Wright absorbed the loss. Salem, at 35-74, occupies last place in the East Coast League Mideast Division.

The Red Sox got a big at-bat from designated hitter Tex Ewart. For the game, Ewart was 1-4 with a double. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 12th double of the season gave Salem a 2-1 lead.

"Sometimes, you can be too aggressive," said Traverse City manager Omari Parker. "You need to let the game come to you."
