Mariners Rebuff Flyers, 6-4

The first-place Virginia Beach Mariners took on the Cocoa Flyers in front of a spirited crowd.
The Cocoa Flyers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Holden Alfonso into a win. Instead, the Virginia Beach Mariners prevailed, 6-4. Alfonso threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The save went to Jerry Daniels, number 13 for him.
C.J. Ramos's at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning was a big one for Virginia Beach. Coming to bat with no one out, runners on 1st and 2nd and Virginia Beach trailing 2-1, the designated hitter hit a run-scoring single.
Afterward, Cocoa manager Josh Baker said: "We've got to find a way to pick up a win."
The Flyers, now 26-77, have lost 12 in a row.
