Fire Frogs Topple Red Sox, 5-1
|
The Salem Red Sox got a sterling performance from pitcher Jason Martin, but the Florida Fire Frogs still prevailed, 5-1. Martin threw 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball. Del Garcia came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Florida is in 4th place in the East Coast League Florida Division with a record of 58-41.
Florida needed the clutch hitting of Sal McCurry to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Fire Frogs on top, 5-1. For the game, McCurry had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Said losing manager Hayden Bassler: "I think Susan Sarandon said it, 'Hit it where they ain't.' We didn't do a very good job of that tonight."
