Lawson Leads Pippins to 11-5 Win Over Doubledays
|
The Yakima Valley Pippins relied on the hitting of left fielder Lonnie Lawson to stop the Auburn Doubledays, 11-5. For the game, Lawson was 2-4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 and driving in 4. Juan Romero came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. Chance McCoy closed the door for Yakima Valley, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Yakima Valley used the timely hitting of Marv Kea to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pippins on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Lawson said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.
The win puts Yakima Valley at 34-29 this season.
