Rattlers Fall, 9-4, to Abreu, Clippers
|
The Martinez Clippers opened their 2052 season with a triumph over the Rancho Cucamonga Rattlers at Recreation Park. The final score was 9-4. Martinez second baseman Pasqual Abreu had a big game. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Isaiah Charles, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and no runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Martinez pinch hitter Chase Ward had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Ward stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 1-0, Martinez. For the game, he went 1-1.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Martinez manager Jonathan Benton.
