Cliburn Voted WCRS Pitcher of the Year Award

Generally, the Pitcher of the Year Award goes to a starting pitcher. For someone in the bullpen to receive this honor, he has to be something special.
Well, Stew Cliburn of Charleston was very special this year.
He was announced today as the 1978 Western Carolinas League Pitcher of the Year Award winner.
The talented Pirates relief expert dominated with 4 saves in 5 tries. Cliburn finished the season with 12 wins and 4 losses, a 1.81 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 139.1 innings, allowing 117 hits, 30 walks and a .222 OBA.
He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Rip Rollins of the Greenwood Braves finished second in voting, while Steven Guyon of the Gastonia Cardinals finished third.
