Rochester Shut Out, 2-0, By Crackers, Whitby Saturday, August 21st , 1965 Bill Whitby of the Atlanta Crackers was on fire against the Rochester Red Wings at Red Wing Stadium today. He shut them out 2-0 on 8 hits, collecting 4 strikeouts and allowing 2 walks. "The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Whitby said later. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer in trying to strike a guy out from the very first pitch. It's too easy to end up behind in the count doing that." Presently Whitby has a 12-7 mark in 26 starts with a 2.51 ERA. He has given up 161 hits in 215 innings, struck out 186 and issued 67 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .203 batting average against him. |
