In an excellent mound performance, Rick Sires of the Clinton Pilots whitewashed the Cedar Rapids Cardinals 8-0 on a 6-hitter.

"I had my best stuff and did a good job of mixing up my pitches," he said after the game.

In all, the Clinton hurler rang up 12 strikeouts and 4 walks in the shutout win.

"We just didn't swing the bats well today," said Cardinals manager . "Sires did a good job keeping us guessing."

To date Sires is 17-5 in 25 starts with a 3.34 ERA and has 245 strikeouts in 197 innings.
