Guardians Collect 6-3 Win Over Mets
|
The Cleveland Guardians faced a tough opponent in New York pitcher Jim Magrane, but still scratched out a win at Shea Stadium by a final score of 6-3 in 12 innings. Magrane went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was Rick Ankiel in relief. His record improves to 6-0. Robinson Tejeda took the loss. The second-place Guardians go to 34-29.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Tomas de la Rosa to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Guardians on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We busted our humps out there," said de la Rosa.
