The San Francisco Giants withstood an impressive performance by Cincinnati first baseman Sadaharu Oh to defeat the Reds, 6-4, at Riverfront Stadium 1970-1983. Oh was 4 for 5 with 4 singles. Dave Boswell, 7-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. With the win, the Giants have a record of 104-56.

Juan Beniquez, the 24-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Beniquez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put San Francisco up, 5-4.

"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Beniquez told the San Francisco Daily.
