Cleveland got a terrific game from third baseman Gregg Jefferies. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Anaheim, 6-4. Jefferies was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. J.J. Putz, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1 innings. Sean Evans earned the save for Anaheim, his 1st.
Had Zachery Hines not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Hines hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Angels.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Anaheim manager Jeff Williams.
Anaheim has run its win streak to 4 consecutive.
