Cardinals Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals handed the New York Mets a 5-4 loss in 11 innings at Busch Stadium. Andy Machado, who is tied for 7th in the NL in RBI with 22, was the star on offense. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Mark Outlaw, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. With the win, St. Louis elevates its record to 14-12.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 11th. With no one out, Machado hit a fastball from Michael Wuertz for a solo home run. The Cardinals, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"We earned that one," said Machado.
