Rangers Fall, 7-5, to Toronto
|
Toronto first baseman Lance Berkman contributed significantly to his team's 7-5 win over the Texas Rangers. Berkman, who finished 3rd in the AL in extra base hits with 95 in 2000, went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Blue Jays. Evan Thomas picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-2. He struck out 4 in 7 innings. Ryan Cullen, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 5th save.
Wilson Valdez hit a bases-clearing triple off Kyle Lohse in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Blue Jays in front, 6-3. Valdez had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Valdez told the Toronto Bulletin.
Toronto goes to 11-17.
