The Guadalajara Tequileros withstood an impressive performance by New York left fielder Morey Neill to defeat the Yankees, 8-5, at Yankee Stadium. Neill hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Pat Nygård, the winning pitcher, improved to 9-6. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 10 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The win gives Guadalajara a season record of 89-47.

The Tequileros grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth. With two out, Mário Quintanar, who finished 3rd in the AL in slugging percentage with .574 last year, hit a 2-run home run off Chollo Sagrero, putting Guadalajara in front, 8-4. For Quintanar, it was his 32nd home run of the season.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Quintanar said after the game.
