Twins Use Late Rally to Win
The Minnesota Twins beat the Oakland Athletics, 9-6, at Network Associates Coliseum. Minnesota center fielder Darin Erstad, who leads the AL in hits with 31, collected 2 singles and 1 double with 2 runs batted in. The winner was Minnesota reliever John Weglarz, now 1-0. The loser was Armando Benitez. Oakland is now 12-6.

With the game in the balance, help came for the Twins from the most obvious of places: Their star center fielder Erstad, the slick-fielding center fielder . With two out in the top of the ninth, Erstad delivered a 2-run double, making the score 8-6, Minnesota. It was the 6th double of the season for Erstad.

"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Erstad told the Minnesota Bulletin. "And padding the Minnesota win column."
