6-3 Triumph Takes New York to 58-34
In the 6-3 New York win over Cincinnati, the impact of Tony Pena was substantial. Pena, who finished 5th in the NL in wins above replacement with 6.2 in 1982, went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Rick Sutcliffe, the winning pitcher, is now 8-4. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 10 and walking 3. The triumph puts New York at 58-34 for the season.

Pena contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for New York in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-1, Pena took a fastball from Allen Edwards and stroked the home run to left. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Mets to leap in front, 5-3.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Pena told the New York Bulletin.
