Cincinnati and Houston played a hard-fought contest.

The Cincinnati Reds received a superlative performance from starting pitcher Pedro Martinez, allowing them to bump off the Houston Astros, 2-1. Kyle Farnsworth earned the save for Cincinnati, his 15th of the year.

Martinez was effective against the Astros, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited Houston to just no runs on 4 hits over 8 innings.

"Pedro really held it together well," said Cincinnati manager Kyle Burns.

The 4th-place Reds now have a record of 32-42.
