League Championship Series Goes the Distance, New York Prevails
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Yankee Stadium 1976-1987 as the League Championship Series stretched to the final game.

It was the New York Yankees feeling the thrill of victory, with a 10-2 win over the Minnesota Twins, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the World Series.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Minnesota manager George Wilson. "Congratulations to New York, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was right fielder Karl Pagel, who was named MVP. He hit .750 with a .750 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 1 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The New York Yankees will play against the St. Louis Cardinals in the next round. St. Louis won their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers 3 games to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
