The San Francisco Giants started the World Series in style today, winning on the road against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium 1964-1978 by a score of 8-7 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Giants right fielder Hank Aaron excelled. He was 3-4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times.

It could have been a different outcome for San Francisco, had it not been for Joe Torre, the 30-year old catcher . Torre contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put San Francisco up, 4-3.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Aaron, "but a win in the playoffs is nothing to sniff at."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shea Stadium 1964-1978 in New York.
