Pittsburgh Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates bested the New York Mets by a score of 6-5, with first baseman Jeremy Lindgren getting the main credit. On the day, Lindgren was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Pirates. Jesus Jacobo, now 9-4, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The Pirates improved to 55-49.
The decisive blow was delivered by Mike Durand in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Chad Lavely to win the game for Pittsburgh. The home crowd went nuts.
"The team always comes first," Durand told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
