Twins Curb Red Sox, 5-3
|
Twins first baseman Ryan Schimpf left his imprint on his team's 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. Schimpf went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs for Minnesota in the contest. Minnesota pitcher Dale Gear got the win. He's now 1-0. Buttons Briggs was tagged with the loss. Cy Vorhees wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the seventh inning, but Ruben Quevedo didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Boston trailing 4-2, Quevedo retired Alex Farmer to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Quevedo, with a wink.
The Red Sox fall to 6-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1901 season.
