Red Sox Win at Home, 4-3
|
The Boston Red Sox did just enough to sneak past the New York Yankees, 4-3, at Fenway Park. Boston pitcher Buttons Briggs, in particular, had a standout performance. The win was credited to 26-year old right-handed pitcher Bill Wolff in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Jay Hughes took the loss. The win takes Boston to 2-6.
Boston took a 4-3 lead on Reggie Smith's 2nd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Smith hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Jay Hughes visibly frustrated.
"We put together a nice win," Briggs said.
