O'Donnell Gets Award for Relief Work

He may only be 25, but Mike O'Donnell of the Detroit E (GCL) Tigers East has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the Gulf Coast Rookie League.

The reliever was today named the GCL Reliever of the Year winner for 2028.

He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 2 saves in 22 relief appearances and 41 strikeouts in 27.2 innings. He had a record of 1-0 to go with his 0.98 ERA.

He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 18. Jeff Frick of the Detroit W (GCL) Tigers West finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Pat Pacheco of the Baltimore (GCL) Orioles finished third with 4 first place votes.
