Orioles Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
Sunday, September 10th , 2028
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Ed Smith Stadium as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.
It was the Baltimore (GCL) Orioles feeling the thrill of victory, with a 6-2 win over the Philadelphia E (GCL) Phillies East, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Philadelphia E (GCL) manager Kerry Wood. "Congratulations to Baltimore (GCL), but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 2-1 series win was right fielder Eric Green, who was named MVP. He hit .455 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The Baltimore (GCL) Orioles will play against the New York A E (GCL) Yankees East in the next round. New York A E (GCL) won their series against the Boston (GCL) Red Sox 2 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
