Johnson City Sweeps Burlington Monday, September 4th , 2028 It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious Johnson City Cardinals, that meant the Appalachian League Round 1 trophy. The Cardinals took a 6-5 victory over the Burlington Royals at Burlington Athletic Stadium, winning their 1st championship after taking the series 3-0. "We've got grit," said Cardinals catcher Steve Stohr, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to."
