Thrilling Win Pushes San Diego to Next Round Wednesday, October 4th , 2028 The San Diego Padres celebrated wildly after a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card Game. At the center of the celebration was Alex Santos, who was instrumental in getting his team to the Division Series. "I may get a lot of the credit, but it's a team sport," said the San Diego pitcher. "Getting named MVP is nice, but even if I sucked and we made it to the next round, I would have been happy. That's all that matters at this time of year." Santos threw 6 innings, with 7 strikeouts, while allowing 7 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs. Atlanta manager JD Smith said it was a "tough blow" for his team, which had aspirations of winning the World Series this year. The San Diego Padres will play against the Miami Marlins in the next round. Miami had a bye in the Wild Card Game. The Division Series is scheduled to begin on October 5th , 2028.
