Schmid Batters Akron for 5 Hits
After his 5-hit effort at Canal Park was tarnished by Altoona's 6-5 loss to the Akron RubberDucks, catcher Jamie Schmid told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."

He didn't get the win, but the 25-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the RubberDucks.

"His swing is getting there," said Curve skipper Kieran Mattison after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jamie did that to perfection and we wasted it."

Jamie Schmid singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, struck out in the 9th and singled in the 11th.

So far this year, Schmid is hitting .285 with 2 home runs.
