Super Swinger -- Plaza Slams 5 Hits
|
Even as a kid, Juan Plaza said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Baseball City Complex, Plaza showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 21-year-old center fielder had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Baltimore (DSL) Orioles Orange, helping his team knock off the Cincinnati (DSL) Reds by a score of 13-6.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did."
Juan Plaza flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Alejandro Lugo in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Plaza has recorded a .302 batting average with 38 hits, 2 home runs, 16 RBIs, 17 runs scored and a .413 OBP.
