Key West State pitcher Cooper Richards had a large part in his team subduing the Mackinac Island Univ. Sturgeons, 1-0. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Now 1-10, the 2026 Sturgeons have been wretched so far.

John Carey had a chance to be a hero in the bottom of the tenth inning. With Mackinac Island Univ. trailing 1-0, Mackinac Island Univ. had the bases empty. But Carey grounded out.
