Cubs Collect 4-3 Win Over Giants
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Chicago (N) Cubs take on the San Francisco Giants.
The performance of Jose Marin proved critical in helping Chicago (N) beat San Francisco, 4-3, in 13 innings. The Cubs designated hitter went 3-6 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Chicago (N) reliever Joe Campbell was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Josh Knight.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the 13th. With Chicago (N) trailing 3-2, Marin jumped on a fastball from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Josh Knight and hit a 2-run home run to left. With one swing, the Cubs had a walk-off win.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Marin said.
Chicago (N) is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 8th in 21 games.
