Nationals Lose By a Run at Philadelphia
|
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals, 5-4. Philadelphia pitcher and Buena Park, California, native Phil Ray led the way. Philadelphia goes to 89-60. The win puts them 11 games up in their division.
Tied up with the Nationals in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Phillies got a boost from right fielder Mike Luquette. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Luquette saw a 1-0 cutter from Josh Burch and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Philadelphia on top, 4-3.
In postgame comments to the Philadelphia Herald, Luquette said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
