Toronto Edges Baltimore, 5-4
|
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-4, at Topher's Vanity Venue. The win was due in part to first baseman Andy Grinstead, who went 4-4 with a double and 3 singles. Gene Heier, now 5-0, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Josh Olmstead earned his 32nd save in 36 tries.
Had Matt Bauer not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Bauer hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Blue Jays.
Toronto manager TacocaT Smith commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
After today's action, Toronto sits at 81-67; Baltimore slips to 62-85.
