The Cardinals grabbed a win, 3-1, at Busch Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Milwaukee pitcher Bobby Knopf. Knopf went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Nate Tester, the winner, improved to 8-4. He held the Brewers to 1 run on 6 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 4. Mitch Ritenour notched his 25th save of the season.

Bob Sanchez hit a run-scoring double off Bobby Knopf in the bottom of the second, which put the Cardinals in front, 1-0. In addition to the double, Sanchez had 1 single, while going 2 for 2.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Sanchez told the St. Louis Herald.
