Right Fielder Echevarria goes 3-for-5, Steals Spotlight in Arizona Rout
The Arizona Diamondbacks soundly defeated the Minnesota Twins, 12-3, at Chase Field. Omar Echevarria, who is tied for 9th in the AL in triples with 5, let his bat do the talking. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for Arizona. Rob Friedlander, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save. The last-place Diamondbacks have won 4 in a row.

With Arizona leading 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Echevarria batted against Minnesota pitcher Gus Vazquez. Echevarria hit a cutter to left for a grand slam home run. His 19th home run of the season put the Diamondbacks on top, 9-3.

Diamondbacks manager Rich Smith praised Echevarria after the game. "I keep telling everyone," he said, "'Don't go to sleep on this kid.'"
