Royals Come Up Short at Detroit, 4-3
|
The Detroit Tigers did just enough to sneak past the Kansas City Royals, 4-3, at Comerica Park. Detroit pitcher David Bostic, in particular, had a standout performance. Eric Merritt came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 3-1. Jamie Parrish closed the door for Detroit, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Robbie Ast went 1 for 3 with a double for Detroit. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ast, who is rated as the 90th best prospect by BNN, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Kansas City hurler Joe Killinger, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.
Bostic attributed the win to his team's "determination."
With the victory, the Tigers upped their record to 49-40.
