Nationals Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Holl
|
Jimmy Holl did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Washington Nationals from being beaten, 12-7, to the Montreal Expos at Griffith-Nationals Park. Holl was 3-5 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Montreal reliever Jeff Frank picked up the win, while Josh Burch took the loss for Washington. Montreal is 36-32 and Washington, with the loss, 37-30.
Montreal used a well-timed hit by Cesar Bustamante to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Expos ahead, 7-3. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Expos manager Gibbs Smith.
