The Texas Rangers besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Seattle catcher Rob Gruntvig by beating the Mariners, 4-3, at T-Mobile Park. Gruntvig went 2-3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Josh Hayes, the winner, goes to 2-0. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Texas occupies third place in the American League South Division at 32-23.

Texas used the clutch hitting of Josh Stitzel to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Rangers the lead, 4-3. For the game, Stitzel had 1 single and 2 doubles in 4 at-bats.
