Ortiz's Treatment Not Going Well, Suffers Setback
Monday, June 1st , 1998
"It's worse than we thought." That was the news from the Stars clubhouse today as it was learned that first baseman David Ortiz will be out for an added one week as a result of a recent injury. His treatment for a sprained ankle will have to be extended. Initially it didn't seem the injury was a major concern, but the Las Vegas first baseman told team trainers of some discomfort yesterday morning, and upon examination it was determined to be a more serious injury. "We'd rather take this thing slowly and make sure David gets back onto the field healthy," said the team's head trainer.
In 16 games this season, Ortiz is batting .368 with 21 hits and 1 home run. He has scored 8 runs and driven in 11.
