Houston turned a good effort from starter Aaron Sele into a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Astrodome. The final score was 2-1. The winning pitcher was Sele, now 7-4. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 10. Tom Gordon picked up the save for Houston, his 14th of the year.

Jermaine Dye took Pittsburgh hurler Pedro Astacio deep in the bottom of the fifth. His solo home run put the Astros on top, 2-1. In all, Dye had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"The effort we put into this one paid off," Dye said.

The win for the Astros raised their record to 36-35.
