Chicago and Houston duked it out and the Cubs came out victorious.

David Cone, who is on pace for 201 strikeouts this season, was locked in. The right-hander led the Chicago Cubs to a 5-2 win against the Houston Astros at Astrodome. Cone got the win, improving to 16-6. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Keith Foulke, credited with the save, is now 19 for 23 in save opportunities.

Chicago won the game in part because of Jason Giambi. The designated hitter ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-2. For the game, Giambi had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Chicago manager Andy Wray.

Chicago, at 92-66, is 8 games up in the National League Central Division.
