Houston Gets 6-3 Win Against Pirates
|
The Houston Astros picked up a win at Three Rivers Stadium, dropping the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-3. Pete Harnisch, who is tied for 6th in the NL in quality starts with 16, was the difference-maker. Harnisch, now 10-6, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Kurt Miller collected his 1st save.
Houston right fielder Jermaine Dye contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 96th hit of the season and put the Astros ahead, 2-0.
Afterward, Pittsburgh manager Jim Silveira Jr. said: "Every team has a bad week."
The losses continue to mount for Pittsburgh, which has now dropped 7 in a row.
