3-2 Loss Extends California Skid
Angel Stadium of Anaheim was the site of a tense game between the California Angels and Washington Nationals.

The Washington Nationals earned a close win over the California Angels, thanks in part to Jamie Raymond. The Washington left-hander, who finished 3rd in the NL in strikeouts with 221 last year, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Washington reliever Luca Messina got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Wilson Ortega was tagged with the loss. Picking up his 4th save was 21-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Franco.

Washington used the timely hitting of Dan Pulver to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nationals on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It's a long season," said Pulver. "We'll keep working to improve."

For the Angels, the loss makes them 6-12.
