Detroit turned a good effort from starter Dan Tompkins into a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The Tigers won the game, 4-1. Dan Dieterich recorded his 1st save for Detroit. The win puts Detroit at 5-5.

Tompkins's performance can only be described as masterful. He notched 8 strikeouts in 6 innings while allowing 1 hit. Tompkins goes to 1-0 on the year with 10 strikeouts.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Pittsburgh skipper Ryan Andernacht, "and it cost us."
