Alejandro Herrera pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The California Angels, despite Herrera's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bay Area Athletics at Rickey Henderson Stadium. Johnny Ellyson snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Alejandro Herrera suffered the loss. Curt Mattson collected his 2nd save.

Julio Rosario drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances for Bay Area. The fan favorite had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Alejandro Herrera. It was his 28th RBI of the season.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Rosario told the Bay Area Herald. "But we take nothing for granted."

The win elevated the Athletics to 27-22.
