White Sox Squelch Nationals Offense in Shutout Win
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Washington Nationals and Chicago White Sox get after it.
The Washington Nationals got a superb performance from pitcher Luis Gallegos, but the Chicago White Sox still won the game, 6-0. Gallegos threw 7.1 innings allowing 5 runs. Chicago reliever Jeff Bartlett was the winner. His record is now 6-0. The losing pitcher was Luis Gallegos. Jorge Cavazos closed the door for Chicago, picking up his 5th save of the year.
Tim Coffey had a big run-scoring double for the White Sox in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Luis Gallegos and swatted a double to center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the White Sox ahead, 2-0.
"It never gets old," said Coffey. "Winning, that is."
Chicago leads the American League Central Division by 4½ games.
